Identifying them is enough. The locals can then take action. As an example, horses destroying national parks can be captured and moved. A cheap Pi with a camera could be put on a tree to could the animals.
Currently there are people using a Pi with a camera to detect movement and video it. Humans then have to count. Just a program to identify the main animals would work. Perhaps you could take a Pi number plate recognition program and modify it to identify a fox. You could write about the problem of telling the difference between a dog and a fox.
After graduation, you could start a business. Australia gets about one new introduced bad species per year. The veroa mite arrived last year and is already out of control.
